With Questions Still Surrounding Nolan Wells’ Death, His Mother Called The Family Of The Last Young Woman He Reportedly Met — But What She Says She Learned Is Now Raising Even More Questions

The mother of Nolan Wells — the 18-year-old who vanished during a Fourth of July outing to Mississippi’s Horn Island and was later discovered ᴅᴇᴀᴅ — is shedding more light on what’s going on behind the scenes.

In a video interview with The Grio shared Monday, July 13, Wells’ parents, Christine and Elmore Wonsley, were asked about a young woman their son supposedly spoke with at a party before he disappeared.

“She has been identified,” Christine said. “I don’t know if anyone has spoken to her. Again, we just have not heard much…from our local authorities.”

“I’ve never seen her in my life,” Christine continued, explaining that the young woman “did reach out to me initially, just saying basically like it was a ‘hey and bye’ type situation” with her son.

However, Christine said, “That’s not what I’m getting from other people.”

When it comes to what actually took place before Wells’ death, Christine said there are “a lot of inconsistencies,” adding: “We just want transparency and a very thorough investigation, just like they would do for anyone else.”

One of Wells’ friends, Tracestin Shepherd, spoke with Good Morning America, claiming that Wells wanted to stay behind at a party because he met a girl, and it seemed like “he really did like her.”

As Globe previously reported, after Wells disappeared, his body was found in the water near the island two days later following an extensive search.

While investigators have said drowning is suspected, they haven’t released an official cause of death, and the case remains under investigation.

The three friends who accompanied the Mississippi college football player have retained attorneys. Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump is representing Wells’ family.

Wells’ family has pushed back on the claim that the teen voluntarily stayed behind on the island, and they’ve hired Crump to conduct a separate investigation into his death.

During Shepherd’s interview, he said, “We did no wrong here, and we don’t understand how we’re getting so much hate behind us. We all cared and loved Nolan, and nobody wanted to see Nolan die. Nobody wanted to see his life be taken so short
