Wilson Phillips star ditches signature red hair and reveals new look

Carnie Wilson of Wilson Phillips fame has debuted a bold new look after years of rocking her signature red hair.

The 58-year-old, who cofounded the iconic pop group with her sister Wendy Wilson and fellow music nepo baby Chynna Phillips back in 1989, unveiled her transformation on Wednesday.

She explained that she ‘waited seven years’ to dye her hair a different color and that she finally took the leap.

In videos and pH๏τos posted to Instagram, Wilson, who was hospitalized last year, showed off her new highlighted brunette tresses as well as lengthy hair extensions.

‘I waited seven years to change my hair color!!! I love my red, but sometimes you just need a little bit of honey,’ she captioned the post.

The daughter of the late Beach Boys icon Brian Wilson gushed that she feels ‘rejuvenated’ as she gave her hairstylist a shout-out.

Wilson’s surprise hair makeover comes less than a year after she was hospitalized amid her recent weight loss journey.

Wilson has been open about her weight challenges, having famously undergone gastric bypᴀss in 1999.

The surgery helped her go from 300 pounds to 150 pounds.

In 2012, she turned to surgery again – this time lap-band surgery – after gaining back most of the weight. 

In 2017, Wilson underwent another surgery to remove her botched implants which ruptured. 

Over a decade later in September 2025, Wilson decided to have her lap-band removed due to issues it was causing her.

However, the removal resulted in a ‘very scary’ discovery of an ulcer.

Wilson said at the time that her blood pressure went up dramatically and she suffered from swollen legs.

Then, Wilson’s doctors told her that the ulcer needed to be dealt with in a timely manner.

‘It was intense, there was an ulcer in there, it doesn’t surprise me with all the stress I’ve had this year,’ Wilson said in an Instagram video last year.

The stress may have been due to the death of her father Brian Wilson, of the Beach Boys, who died in June 2025 following a battle with dementia.

‘I am just so so lucky to have gotten through this,’ she said as she thanked her doctors then her fans who prayed for her. 

She added: ‘It really put a new perspective on some health things for me… on the mend!’ 

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that affects the large intestine (colon), according to the Mayo Clinic. 

The exact cause of UC is unknown, but it is believed to be a combination of genetic, environmental, and immune factors. 

She later shared that she was out of the hospital after her second visit in the same month.

‘I am finally over this hump while recovering from my lap band surgery,’ she shared in a follow-up post.

In recent years, Wilson has seemingly turned away from surgical means to lose weight and has, instead, taken a more simple approach.

In 2024, the star shared that she had lost 40lbs by excluding certain foods from her diet. 

‘This is 40lbs down. I feel really different. I need to start exercising more to make the scale start to move again, but I’m so proud and pumped,’ Wilson said on social media at the time.

‘Knowing that I did this PURELY through diet – no gluten or sugar, no ʙuттer and keeping fats down too. 

‘Lately I have indulged in cheese and nuts which have more fat. If I chose not to eat corn tortillas, nuts and cheese – there’s no way I could keep this up.’

Wilson said at the time that she had ‘totally adjusted my eating habits to satisfy my cravings but in a realistic way,’ which she called ‘a miracle.’
